The NS, or Name Server records of a domain, reveal which servers handle the Domain Name System (DNS) records for it. Setting the name servers of a specific hosting provider for your domain name is the easiest way to forward it to their system and all its sub-records are going to be taken care of on their end. This includes A (the IP address of the server/website), MX (mail server), TXT (free text), SRV (services), CNAME (forwarding), and so forth, so if you need to edit some of these records, you'll be able to do it by using their system. In other words, the NS records of a domain address reveal the DNS servers which are authoritative for it, so when you attempt to open a web address, the DNS servers are contacted to obtain the DNS records of the domain name you want to reach. This way the website that you will see is going to be retrieved from the proper location. The name servers typically have a prefix “ns” or “dns” and every single domain address has at least 2 NS records. There isn't any functional difference between the two prefixes, so what type a web hosting provider will use depends completely on their preference.

NS Records in Shared Hosting

The innovative Hepsia CP, which comes with our shared hosting products, will enable you to handle the name servers of every single domain registered through our company with simply a few mouse clicks, so even if you haven't had a website hosting plan or a domain name before, you won't encounter any problems. The Domain Manager tool, which is a part of Hepsia, has a very user-friendly interface and will enable you to edit the NS records of any domain name or even a number of domain addresses together. Additionally we offer you the chance to set up child name servers dns1.your-domain.com and dns2.your-domain.com for each domain name registered inside the account just as easily and all you need for that is a couple of IP addresses - either ours, if you're going to use the child NS to forward the domain name to the account on our cloud platform, or the ones of the third-party provider if you'll use the new records to direct the domain to their system. Unlike other companies, we don't charge extra for providing this additional DNS management service.
